Everest Challenge Climbs — Death Valley Road / Waucoba Canyon Rd

Waucoba Canyon / Death Valley Road ==> 6545'

8.5 miles long, average grade 5%, max grade 7%, elevation gain 2600'

This is an easy climb compared to the others. If it feels hard, then Schulman Grove will be very unpleasant, so if you’re feeling weak here, hydrate and eat religiously, and take it easy so that you have something left for Schulman Grove.

Try to make good cruising time both up and down, and make sure to hydrate at the summit (gulp at least 1/2 liter water) before descending. Then gulp your 16 oz ice-cold Mountain Dew after you descend, which you stashed in your car at the intersection.

Route

See the route map from Hwy 168 / Death Valley Road to the climb finish. Note that the “summit” is inexplicably far from the real summit, by 1000 vertical fee or so.

Route shown does not include intervening “junk miles”.
