Moots 2012 MootoX YBB 29er with Fox 2012 “34 Float 29” Suspension Fork
Up for November review is the Moots MootoX YBB 29er. See my current review of the Moots MootoX RSL 29er.
I’ll be building the MootoX YBB 29er very similarly to the MootoX RSL 29er, but with an emphasis on sturdiness for tougher and rougher stuff, so I’ll be using a heavier and stiffer shock: the 2012 Fox 34 Float 29, specially modified by Fox for 100mm of travel, which is the travel for which the Moots MootoX YBB 29er was designed.
I’ll be using the Easton EC90 XC 29er wheelset of course.
Fox 34 Float 29er shock
The 2012 Fox 34 Float 29er shock has 34mm stanchions (instead of 32mm), so it gains some weight (= ~4.32 pounds with 1.5" tapered Al steerer, 15QR axle), but with increased stiffness for superior handling on the rough stuff—exactly what I have in mind for distinguishing the hard-tail MootoX RSL race bike from the soft-tail MootoX YBB. Two bikes oriented towards different types of riding and terrain.
