Dry Trails No Longer

As of today, the cold and dry is done for, and the “hero dirt” is now history for the 2011/2012 winter season— a full-bore rainstorm is dumping buckets on the trails that had been fantastic riding until yesterday.

But no matter today anyway, as one of the joys of having children is getting to share their “bugs” they bring home from school, this week’s unpleasant menu of the gastrointestinal sort— splitting headache and gut ache, followed by the inevitable— thank capitalism for inventing butt wipes and toilet paper, because corn cobs don’t cut it. Tip: put a few butt wipes in your saddlebag, your shorts will thank you on that Special Day.

The main thing is I’m pissed that I have not ridden for 3 days now. That has not happened in over a year, and it’s ruining my average yearly ascent, which was just about at 1.1 million vertical feet/year as of yesterday.

Anyway, now that my Moots Psychlo X RSL is to be ready in 2-3 weeks, the trails will be perfect for cyclocross: muddy. Or maybe not; I like to ride, not to spend time cleaning a filthy bike. But February brings some warmer weather, and the trails might shape up again in a variety of places, setting aside some of the nasty bentonite-like zones.
