Caffeine for Cyclists: Coffee
Cyclists can benefit from moderate amounts of caffeine, which is why I like the caffeinated GU and Hammer gel products. The general advice is to avoid more than 150mg of caffeine, but over what time duration is unclear. I’ve not seen an issue taking 3 energy gels per hour as yet, which would be about 60mg / hour.
Of course, coffee is one aromatic way to get one’s daily does of caffeine.

Just a brief note to say how much I have enjoyed all three of your web sites. Even though I do not cycle, I follow pro cycling and am interested in diet and training topics. My Mac involvement dates back to system 6.07.!! I am also a fledgling amateur photographer. I have been a practicing cardiac and thoracic surgeon for over 25 years so if you have a questions on anything cardiac, vascular, physiology etc., let me know, I would be happy to give you my take.
Finally, I would love to send you some samples of our Kona Cloud coffee for your enjoyment. If you are interested, send me your mailing address and I will get some of our 2012 crop on the way to you. You can check out our web site for more information.
DIGLLOYD: Wow! I’m not generally a coffee drinker, but this is a very smooth and yet hearty brew, with no bitterness or overtones that make me dislike many coffees. I asked my wife (who is a coffee drinker) to make me a nice strong cup, and it was terrific. With the nice buzz I have, I’m heading out for a ride!!!
