Bikes Of The Year

Moots titanium bikes are so good that I’ve lost interest in looking for a 'better' ride. Which is a strange thing for me. I seriously doubt there is a better overall ride, and I’ve never felt that way before about any of the high-end bikes I’ve ridden. Sure, there are specialty bikes better for some specific purpose, but that’s not the game for a primary bike.

Last years’s MTB winner repeats

Last year, my mountain bike of the year was the Moots Mooto X YBB. Throughout 2012 that sentiment proved itself repeatedly, check out one video. The Moots Mooto X YBB has earned my admiration as not only a masterpiece of craftsmanship, but the best mountain bike for all around use I’ve ever ridden.

More than a year later, the Mooto X YBB continues to impress, whereas every other top-end mountain bike I’ve had has always left me wishing for that je ne sais quoi. Not so the Mooto X YBB, which delivers many tangible and some intangible qualities that require riding one for a time to understand properly.

And so the Moots Mooto X YBB earns Mountain Bike of the Year a 2nd time.

This year’s road bike winner

What the Moots Mooto X YBB does for the trail, the Moots Vamoots RSL does for the road. With an unbeatable blend of comfort and performance and durability, and an elegance that never fades (or chips).

Through four double centuries and a century in 2012, the Vamoots RSL proved its comfort. On wicked-fast descents, straight or curvy it proves its mettle as a race bike. And most important to me, it was an ideal ride for the Everest Challenge.

There is something magical about Lightweight wheels on the Vamoots RSL. Yet the same wheels on other bikes don’t deliver the same effect. The Moots frame is dialed.

Yes, the LOOK 595 Ultra is a darn good bike. Thing is, I had both at my disposal all year, and the 595 just did not get ridden more than a few times. Simple as that. And so the 595 is for sale.

Cyclocross winner

The Moots Psychlo X RSL gets my vote. Now, I haven’t ridden other cyclocross bikes, so this one is a bit unfair. Except it’s not— the PX has the same Moots ride quality and actually got more use than my mountain bikes overall. I love its pavement-and-dirt-same-ride flexibility. Fantastic.
