Easton EC90 XC Wheelset — Weight Ready To Ride
Easton claims an amazingly low wheelset weight of just 1285 grams for the pair, which is lighter than most road bike wheelsets. Amazingly, the 29er wheelset version comes in at only 10% heavier 1416g per pair.
Manufacturers stated weights are often optimistic, so I prefer to weigh a wheel on my gram-accurate lab scale, but I was not able to weigh the rims prior to the tires being installed, so I cannot give an exact weight of a new rim.
The following need to be added to the wheels to make them rideable:
- brake rotor;
- tire;
- tubeless setup including tire sealant and valves, etc;
- Cogset on rear wheel.
- Skewer.
This all adds up, roughly doubling the quoted wheelset weight for a rideable wheel.
Ready to ride weight as weighed
Below are ready-to-ride weights, all with tubeless setup using Stan’s sealant. Weights below are the front wheel only, without the skewer and with tires inflated to ~30 psi (air does weigh something!).
We can see that the Easton EC90 XC wheel is indeed very lightweight, even though it is mounted with a wider tire than the Bontrager carbon rims (Racing Ralph #11600117, nominally a 575g tire).
