Sigma DP1 Merrill — Superb Sharpness

Last updated November 13, 2012 - Send Feedback

The Sigma DP1 Merrill with its true-color Foveon sensor offers outstanding per-pixel image quality. It has a fixed 28mm (equivalent) lens, which is perfect for cycling.

The Sigma DP1 Merrill just fits into a cycling jersey pocket— easier than the moderate size Olympus OM-D E-M5, but notably more awkward than the Sony DSC-RX100.

The Sigma DP1 Merrill is an unusual camera in several respects (call it a true photographer’s camera!). As an about $999 camera, I strongly recommend reading my in-depth review of the Sigma DP-1 Merrill for how to get the best from it.

The DP1 Merrill is not a camera I’d recommend for a casual photographer; the results from RAW and on aperture or manual can be so superb that it deserves to be shot well. However, JPEG results are outstanding, and it can be used as a point and shoot with exceptional results.

No video mode worth using, no built-in flash.

Get the Sigma DP1 Merrill at Amazon.com.
