Gram-accurate Scale for Food and Small Items

OHaus Scott Pro Digital Scale
(various capacities and accuracies)

A high quality scale has a variety of useful purposes:

  • Tracking food weight for accurate assessement of caloric intake for dieting or intensive athletic training;
  • Weighing photography, backpacking, biking gear, down vests, etc when the weight is a real issue in choosing gear.
  • Accurate weight for shipping letters or small packages.

I have been using the OHaus Scout Pro for about 10 years now, and am completely satisfied with their consistency and accuracy and durability and usability. While not cheap, they are outstanding investments for the long term (as useful tools), and I use one just about every day.

See pricing at Amazon.

I have two models of the Scout Pro. One has a 6kg capacity and is accurate to 1 gram. The other has a 400g capacity, and is accurate to 0.1 gram. The higher-capacity scale is more useful all around for its much higher capacity, and I rarely need 1/10 gram accuracy.

A quality scale lasts forever, and has no ambiguity as to the actual readout. I prefer a digital scale— the number is displayed with no possible confusion
