About 20 years ago there was a population explosion of these huge spiders (tarantulas)— I remember dozens of them squashed on the trail, with thousands more in abundance. I hadn’t seen them for some years. This one hangs out on the trail to Black Mountain in Monte Bello preserve. I say hello to him (probably a “her”) each time we meet. So far, she has not met my tire and I am on the lookout so that doesn’t happen.
