Trek Mountain Bike Came Unglued, So Looking For Durable and Elegant Titanium, e.g. Moots Mooto X YBB 29"
See the March 31 entry for how my Trek Project One MTB came apart.
I’m not really looking to stay with Trek for a mountain bike, though I love my Trek Madone 6.9 SSL road bike. I want durability in a mountain bike, and good looks. Carbon fiber and Trek paint jobs offer neither. Nor am I enamored of dual suspension; it’s not that important where I live. But some compliance is a big plus, even if it’s not full dual suspension.
Hence I’m looking at the Moots Mooto X YBB “soft tail”, with 1 1/8" travel at the rear wheel— plenty for my trails.
I will skip some of the oversized Moots logos, etc, but setting aside the annoying logos on the tires as shown, this is a clean and elegant bike with top notch build, especially with its titanium seat post, stem and bar. I’d like something in the 19 pound range, which is perhaps just possible with an appropriate wheelset choice.
I’m trending towards a 29" wheel model, a well-proven choice for serious riders nowadays, along with tubeless tires. I’d gear it with a 40/28 front dual chainring, and 11-34 rear cassette. Brakes I’d use a larger rotor in front to avoid fade, and a smaller one in back, since the rear brake doesn’t do a whole lot.
