Lightweight Obermayer Tubular Carbon Fiber Wheelset First Ride Impressions
The 987-gram Lightweight Obermayer wheelset is now on my bike. I picked them up late in the day from Palo Alto Bicycles. Now those guys know how to glue a tubular— my compliments on the ultra-clean job which I’ll photograph and show soon. See my review page and image gallery of the Obermayers.
I mounted the Veloflex Sprinter on the rear (~235g) and the Veloflex Record on the front (~200g). The Obermayers feel great with these tires— supple and fast.
First impressions: the Obermayers feel as quick and fast as the Ventoux 240, but noticeably stiffer in the rear under sprinting. The Obermayers also handle extremely well; “flipping” the wheels from side to side as in quick turns is instant, with no resistance. Not yet tested: climbing and fast curvy downhills and undulating ground and windy conditions TBD.
