BBC: Health Kick Reverses Aging
BBC News on health reports that going on a health kick can reduce aging at the cellular level:
Going on a health kick reverses ageing at the cellular level, researchers say.
The University of California team says it has found the first evidence a strict regime of exercise, diet and meditation can have such an effect.
But experts say although the study in Lancet Oncology is intriguing, it is too early to draw any firm conclusions.
The study looked at just 35 men with prostate cancer. Those who changed their lifestyle had demonstrably younger cells in genetic terms.
I completely agree that far more study is needed to prove this theory.
But I see it as plausible based on my own sense of vitality. At the cellular level? Maybe. But there is no question that the better physical shape I’m in, the better I feel and the better my lungs work, the more off the charts my HDL (good) cholesterol is, and the less I get sick, and so on. And those reasons are plenty.
Maybe one day we’ll have a virus like in the Bourne Identity that can “viral off” damaged cells and really restore youthful vigor at a cellular level. But until then, vigorous excercise is a practical and rewarding effort.
