Newsweek: It’s Time For The Scientific Community To Admit We Were Wrong About Covid And It Cost Lives

2023-01-30, by KEVIN BASS  , MS MD/PHD STUDENT, MEDICAL SCHOOL

As a medical student and researcher, I staunchly supported the efforts of the public health authorities when it came to COVID-19. I believed that the authorities responded to the largest public health crisis of our lives with compassion, diligence, and scientific expertise. I was with them when they called for lockdowns, vaccines, and boosters.

I was wrong. We in the scientific community were wrong. And it cost lives.

I can see now that the scientific community from the CDC to the WHO to the FDA and their representatives, repeatedly overstated the evidence and misled the public about its own views and policies, including on natural vs. artificial immunityschool closures and disease transmissionaerosol spreadmask mandates, and vaccine effectiveness andsafety, especially among the young. All of these were scientific mistakes at the time, not in hindsight. Amazingly, some of these obfuscations continue to the present day.

...We made science a team sport, and in so doing, we made it no longer science. It became us versus them, and "they" responded the only way anyone might expect them to: by resisting.

...

Solving these problems in the long term requires a greater commitment to pluralism and tolerance in our institutions, including the inclusion of critical if unpopular voices.

Intellectual elitism, credentialism, and classism must end. Restoring trust in public health—and our democracy—depends on it.

WIND: how about reparations?

This Kevin Bass guy strikes me as insincere, with empty words intended to placate and evade actual responsibility. What concrete thing has he done to make amends? BTW, he is a PUFA denier, an ignoramus on nutrition. I would not trust him in any medical setting whatsoever.

Why would anyone of sound mind ever again trust highly-trained “experts” so easily able to ignore their training and both be gaslighted and to gaslight others? It’s all psychology and human psychology never has and never will change.

And IMO, scientists are among the most gullible people on the planet. Brilliant technical minds with a child’s comprehension of how people act and behave and compromised ethics is the whole game in getting research grants.

In these times with most of the media controlled by shadowy unseen forces (eg MSNBC as a front for the CIA as is well documented by Glenn Greenwald), and huge amounts of money on the line (follow the money) we will never again have real science on any topic, wether it is medicine or climate change or anything contentious. Legitimate scientific debate over anything involving money is impossible in modern times and never again will be possible, so long as the systemic structural financial incentives exist. Indeed today’s scientists with “territory” to protect have to age-out (die) in order for real breakthroughs to occur, then the pattern repeats.
