Foot Support for Road or Mountain: ESoles
In 2012 I switched to the Sidi Pro Carbon shoes, which are definitely a better shoe for my feet versus the Giro Prolight cycling shoes (and the Giro shoes wore out in one year also).
Foot support can make all the difference in power transfer, and my existing “Superfeet” footbeds just were not working for me.
Time will tell as this season progresses, but the eSoles custom modular footbeds @AMAZON seem to provide improved power transfer and superior arch support. The “custom” means that there are several thicknesses in the box, so one can start with less support, then increase it.
UPDATE: I abandoned these inserts because they place the support too far foward, placing undue pressure on the forefoot. I determined that they were not an improvement over several months.
Note that switching foot supports can feel “wrong” at first if one is used to incorrect support. And for riders with an overly tight plantar area in the foot, small increments of change might be necessary; the eSoles have several thicknesses available to that.
I was lucky and found a local advisor who had long experience with skiing and biking footbeds, but I could not have found this solution and/or have known the right way to proceed.
