Giro 'Monaco' Gel Glove

The Giro Monaco gel glove is a good looking glove that was noticeably less comfortable for me than the Pearl Izumi 8588 gel glove, because the outer part of the glove has an ineffective pad, and that is where I rest on my hands on the handlebar. The poor padding leads to discomfort on 2+ hour rides.

It’s possible that the gloves I tried in February 2011 have been improved, but the claimed comfort was definitely not up to that of the Pearl Izumi 8588 gel glove.

Giro states:

Exceptional feel and performance, with the comfort needed for long hours in the saddle. The Monaco is the most full-featured glove in the Giro line. Designed for high-performance and high-mileage riders, the Monaco's 3-piece palm and breathable construction is combined with Technogel® padding for exceptional pressure distribution, ventilation, and fit.

Build quality: within 3 weeks, the Giro Monaco stitching became unsewn on one of the fingers. My local bike shop, Palo Alto Bicycles, was kind enough to swap them out for another pair. Since Giro asks $39.99 for these gloves, the nearly immediate failure doesn’t make them look like a good value. Still, one pair has no statistical validity, and perhaps the replacement pair will hold up better.
