Mercedes Sprinter Issues and Breakdowns: Right After Service A: “Engine Oil Level Reduce Oil Level” Red Warning

Photographer and cyclist and Mac expert and software engineer Lloyd Chambers is available for consulting on general Sprinter considerations at his usual consulting rates via phone, or in person in the Palo Alto, CA area. Save yourself hours and mistakes by discussing issues up-front. More about Lloyd....

This issue arose right after a Service A. The Sprinter ran fine for 40 miles and up and into National Forest and a few miles in down a dirt road.

The next morning, what appears to be a dire warning popped up right away. Being several miles down a tight dirt road, I was not too keen on seeing this. But I drove out and called the dealer who suggested that the sensor was overly sensitive and it was just a little high. As indeed it was—over the MAX mark on the dipstick, though not by much.

I ended up visiting the dealer to have excess oil removed.

This issue is not acceptable either because the oil level was immediately after a Service A. All told, it wasted several hours of my time.

At about 17600 miles and less than 11 months into service.
