I don’t normally go for ceramic bottom bracket bearings (many are dubious longevity, e.g. months), but I could not resist the Chris King ceramic bottom bracket (about $135 @AMAZON), with its 5 year warranty and user-serviceable niceties.

For that special race day, one can use the injector to put lighter grease into the bottom bracket bearings, or inject heavier grease for winter rain, or anything in-between.

While I don’t know if the drag matters, I could feel the difference with my fingers between the ceramic and steel versions.

The ceramic version maintenance is described this way:

The ceramic balls need only a small amount of a light weight premium synthetic waterproof grease for optimal performance.

Small grease additions more frequently works well to keep the bearing smooth and fast.

For longer greasing intervals or for abusive conditions, filling the bearing full of grease is recommended.
